Artillery observers are exactly what it says on the tin (well, uniform): Forward observers for mortar batteries. When they appear, they start taking down your coordinates and then fling a high visibility flare to guide artillery fire. If the flare isn't put out in time, you get treated to a not-so-nice display of fireworks celebrating your accomplishments (with complimentary shrapnel ventilating you).
Tactics[ | ]
By themselves, observers are hardly a threat. They don't have weapons, hanging back in an isolated spot and calling down artillery strikes. Extinguishing the flare (approaching and interacting with it) will prevent the artillery strike. The permanent method is to find the observer and treat him to a nice leaden gift by way of rifle.
Resistances/Weaknesses[ | ]
Spotters akin to Snipers prefer elevated positions that can't be reached by players. They have low health (80) which scales with difficulty. They are hard to spot since they don't use any guns, and the only way for players to realise wether they are being harassed by one is by the flares they throw. Usually characters may play a voice line indicating that a Spotter is in the vicinity.
Similar to Snipers, Spotters take 4 times more damage from headshots, normally resulting in instant death if hit right in the kissers.
Spotters cannot be dismembered. This trait is shared among Snipers and Flammers.
Spotters poseess base hurt severities but cannot be staggered by bullets. Same goes for Snipers.
